Keep your progress safe
FinallyRead stores profiles and progress on this device. There is no account sign-in, cloud recovery, or sync between devices. Make a backup before you replace your device or do anything that could remove app data.
To back up a profile:
- On Home, open the profile row and select the profile you want to protect.
- Open Options, then Learning & app, and find Profile backup.
- Choose Download backup and save the file somewhere you can find again, outside the app.
- Repeat for any other profiles you want to keep.
A backup contains one profile and its progress. It can include your profile name and learning history, so treat it as personal and don't post it publicly.
My progress looks missing
First, open the profile row on Home and check your other profiles. You may be viewing a different one. While you investigate, don't delete a profile or the app: that can remove the data you're trying to recover.
If you have a backup:
- Select the profile you want to replace.
- Open Options › Learning & app › Profile backup and choose Restore backup.
- Pick the backup file and read the confirmation carefully. Restoring replaces the selected profile; it does not merge. Other profiles are left unchanged.
- Check the profile name and progress on Home and in Collection. Keep the original backup file until you're satisfied.
FinallyRead's built-in recovery copy lives on the same device, so it can't help after the app is deleted or the device is lost. We have no server copy and can't restore progress for you.
Choosing practice
On Home, Choose practice opens the activity selector. There are four activities:
- Drops: one clue at a time.
- Ticker: words move across the reading field.
- Grid: find the matching answer.
- Images: connect an illustration with its Japanese word, reading, and meaning.
Select an activity and one of its units, review Selected practice, then continue to Checkout. Different activities offer different units. Hiragana, Katakana, and Mixed kana are separate choices.
Making reading comfortable
Options › Reading & display has text size, contrast, motion, and transparency settings. If a clue is hard to see, adjust these before continuing. There's no need to mark an answer wrong just because the display isn't working for you.
Report a problem
Email finallyread@adastra-apps.com and include:
- the app version and build (shown in About);
- your device model and iOS or iPadOS version;
- the activity and unit you selected, and what you expected versus what happened;
- short steps to make it happen again, and any text-size, contrast, or motion settings you use.
A screenshot helps, but please crop out profile names and notifications first. Don't send passwords, Apple account details, or a full backup file in your first message.
